David Ogilvy said a copywriter ought to use the products he works for. Maybe that was indeed an option back in the (g)olden times when the Mad Men were still paid decent money. Much as I’m into watches, I certainly can’t afford a five to six-figure one.

Guess, however, which of the brands below you’d find in my treasure chamber. Right. It’s the gems made by my friend Thomas Kortmann. Presently, I own four of his entirely handmade guitars. My current favourite is an archtop that visually resembles a Gibson ES 175. But believe me – looks is where the similarity ends. I had an ES 175 once – a beautiful piece of furniture of flamed maple. It sounded like a cardboard box, so I had to let go of it. The Kortmann, in contrast, sings like an angel – even unamplified.
